The Faroe Islands

I visited these 18 islands in the North Atlantic for 2 weeks in December 2015. That time of year, there is only about 5 hours of daylight. So, it was a 'race' to explore as much as possible during those few hours. I sailed with the ferry from Hirtshals, Denmark to Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands. The ferry ride takes 38 hours but you can bring your own car (which I did).

M/S Norröna - is operated by Smyril Line and sails between Denmark and Iceland with a stop in its home port of Tórshavn. You could of course choose to fly, if you wanted to get there faster. Atlantic Airways is one of the only options.

While I was there, I shot some timelapse / photos with my iPhone 6 Plus. The video below was shot through the front window of the car using the app called 'Lapse it'. I edited the video in 'Sony Vegas Pro' and added color grading / effects with the plug-in called 'Magic Bullet'.

Music is by the Faroese electro pop duo, BYRTA.

The photos I took were posted to my Instagram. You can see them here too - click an image to see it full screen. There is a supporting text to each photo.

Before travelling, I often create a map with locations that I would like to visit. I also put in information about shopping and other useful information. Here is my map for the Faroe Islands. Maybe it can help you too, if you decide to go.

Here are some links to official tourist sites / shopping with more information on the Faroe Islands:

If you need offline maps / navigation for your smartphone, I suggest using NAVMII. You need to download the map for Great Britain to get the map for the Faroe Islands.
